Dalhart City Council Ward Four candidates Tim Yee and Sherri Haschke addressed the audience Tuesday in the first of two town hall style debates to be held at Hillside Christian Church in anticipation of the upcoming local elections. Hillside Christian Church and The Dalhart Texan have partnered to host the town hall debates, with one for the school board candidates scheduled for Tuesday, May 3, at 7 p.m.

Crime reports of theft appear to be rampant in Dalhart, with approximately 110 calls each week to the Dalhart Police Department for thefts, burglaries and suspicious activity in general.

Dalhart Police Chief Gary Sinclair, who has been with DPD for nearly five years, noted that crime is only slightly higher compared to the same time last year. Sinclair reported approximately 90 theft and motor vehicle burglaries so far in 2016.

During the Spring Conference of the Juvenile Justice Association of Texas, a new executive board of directors was elected by the membership. The president elect is Stephanie Fowler, chief juvenile probation officer of Dalham, Hartley and Sherman Counties.

The Dalhart City Council met Tuesday night, April 26.

Joe Garcia, Ward Three Council member, had a letter for council members giving his resignation on council as he is moving to another ward. The council accepted his resignation. The council has 30 days to appoint a replacement.

Garcia, in closing wrote “Again, thank you for always supporting me, and I appreciate everything you have done fo rour city.”
